The German federal government wants the existing building stock to be nearly climate-neutral by 2050. Because this requires not just technological innovations but also concepts for the widespread market penetration of commercially available technologies and processes, the “EnEff.Gebäude.2050 – Innovative projects for achieving nearly climate-neutral building stock by 2050” funding initiative was launched. The initiative is intended to more closely link research and widespread applications.
On the one hand, demonstration projects are being funded to increase efficiency and integrate renewable energies in buildings, both in regard to technological and non-technological innovations. These are primarily aimed at industry and companies as well as universities and research institutes.
On the other hand, ambitious strategies for achieving nearly climate-neutral building stock are also being developed and modelled in so-called transformation projects. Funding is being spent on conceptual work in the new-build and refurbishment sectors that prepares investment-led energy efficiency measures in the building sector as well as the implementation of such energy efficiency measures with a demonstrative character.
In addition, annual competitions will be launched during this initiative.
